Three men die after 4×4 vehicle pulled from River Esk amid Storm Gerrit chaos

Three men have died after a 4×4 vehicle was recovered from the River Esk on the North York Moors, amid the chaos brought by Storm Gerrit.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Glaisdale at 11.48am on Thursday with fire, ambulance and police services in attendance. Air support also arrived at the scene.

The vehicle was recovered from the river by the fire service just after 3pm on Thursday.

However, the three men inside the vehicle were pronounced dead.

Another man who attempted to help those in the 4×4 was pulled to safety from the river at around 12.10pm. He has been receiving medical treatment.

Next of kin are currently being informed about the tragic incident and specialist support is being provided by the police.
