Full list of dates and services affected in September and October walkouts

Train drivers will stage two more days of strike action in September and October in their long-running dispute with rail companies over pay.

The action, organised by the Aslef union, will coincide with the Conservative Party conference, which is being held in Manchester at the start of October.

For Londoners, this will be compounded by two more days of Tube strikes, organised by the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) in a separate dispute over jobs and conditions.

Here’s when both walkouts are taking place, and the latest travel advice from National Rail and Transport for London (TfL).

When are the national rail strikes?

Aslef members working at 16 rail companies will strike on Saturday 30 September and Wednesday 4 October.

The Tory party conference begins on 1 October and ends on 4 October, so these two days are likely the days on which people, including many MPs, would have planned to go Manchester to attend.

The union is also implementing a ban on working overtime on Friday 29 September and from Monday 2 October to Friday 6 October.

The following operators will be affected by the action:

  • Avanti West Coast
  • Chiltern Railways
  • c2c
  • CrossCountry
  • East Midlands Railway
  • Greater Anglia
  • GTR Great Northern Thameslink
  • Great Western Railway
  • Island Line
  • LNER
  • Northern Trains
  • Southeastern
  • Southern, including Gatwick Express
  • South Western Railway
  • TransPennine Express
  • West Midlands Trains

Aslef said the action would “force the train operating companies to cancel all services and the ban on overtime will seriously disrupt the network”.

The Rail Delivery Group (RDG) said operators will run as many trains as possible but there will be wide regional variations, with some running no services at all.

You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time journey planner for travel up to 30 September, as most timetables are now showing correctly.

A further special timetable for 4 October is expected to be published on Wednesday 27 September.

When are the Tube strikes?

London Underground workers will strike on Wednesday 4 and Friday 6 October. Services are also likely to be disrupted the morning after strike action.

The walkout involves more than 3,500 station staff working on the Tube. The RMT has warned it will “shut down” the network.

TfL said: “If the strikes go ahead, there will be severe disruption across the whole Tube network.

There will be no Night Tube on Friday 6 October. All services, including buses, will be much busier than usual.”

The Elizabeth Line, London Overground, DLR and tram services are not on strike, however they may experience last-minute changes, including trains not stopping at stations shared with London Underground.

You can use the TfL journey planner to check for live updates on strike days.
