Truck driver in soup for intimidating diamond company CEO

By Staff Reporter

A Mutare truck driver has landed in the dock on allegations of intimidating a Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) top official to withdraw charges against an employee at the company on the pretext that he was a member of the Vice President’s office.

Cosmas Kazuzu (45) of Chikanga Mutare appeared before a Harare magistrate who remanded him in custody after the state opposed bail.

He is facing intimidation charges and was not asked to plead.

Allegations are that, on the 5th of August 2024, Kazuzu contacted the complainant, the chief executive officer (CEO) at ZCDC purporting to be a Vice President’s Office member.

He allegedly threatened him claiming to have an incriminating document implicating the complainant.

The court heard Kazuzu demanded that the complainant withdraw disciplinary charges against the company’s human resources manager Lavet Wadawarewa.

“A week later he contacted the complainant again threatening him with dismissal if he did not follow his orders.

“He phoned ZCDC chief security officer and demanded to know the position on the suspension of Lavet Wadawarewa,” the court heard.

Kazuzu also emailed a document to ZCDC alleging that he had evidence against the complainant. He demanded that the document be forwarded to the complainant’s email on the same day.

A police report was made, leading to his arrest.
