Turkish military plane captured flying low over drivers in emergency landing

Astonishing footage has captured the moment a Turkish military transport aircraft flew close to buildings over a busy road before making an emergency landing.

The Turkish defence ministry said the C-160 aircraft took off from an air transport base command in Kayseri in central Turkey for training and had to make an emergency landing “due to a technical malfunction”.

“Our aircraft suffered minor damage,” the ministry said on Thursday. “The health of our pilots and crew is good.”

Footage on social media appeared to show the aircraft flying over traffic, descending to almost streetlight level just metres above passing vehicles.

Muhammed Aytekin, a market trader who filmed the aircraft from his vehicle, told the Turkish Anadolu Agency that it was a “scary moment”.

“It was an event we had never experienced before, we are still in shock,” he added.

“We were travelling from the market by car, and a military plane was coming towards us in the direction of Arginicik. I said, ‘Brother, it’s coming towards us, let’s pull over to the right immediately.’

“I immediately turned on my camera. Everyone was shocked at that moment.”

Mr Aytekin said he could smell the fuel from the aircraft as it passed.

The C-160 aircraft is used by the air forces of Turkey, France and Germany and designed to perform cargo, troop transport and medical evacuation missions.
