Two people in hospital after XL Bully type dog attacks people in Mansfield

Two people are in hospital after an XL Bully type dog attacked a number of people in Mansfield last night.

Nottinghamshire Police say officers were called to the incident shortly after 11pm on Friday night.

A ā€œlarge dogā€ was on the loose and attacking people, police said.

A man and a woman have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

It is currently believed believed the woman woman fell from the window of a flat where the attack began.

The dog, believed to be an XL Bully type, was seized by police from a nearby property and taken to secure kennels.

A 38-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control.

Police said the victimsā€™ injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and an investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

It comes as the Government added the XL Bully to the list of banned breeds under the Dangerous Dogs Act this week.

From 31 December, 2023, it will be an offence to breed, sell, advertise, exchange, gift, rehome, abandon, or allow XL Bully dogs to stray.

However, i has revealed experts believe the system to deal with XL Bullys will ā€œcollapseā€ before the end of the year due to a lack of resources.

Any witnesses, or anyone with any information, is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 823 of 3 November.
