UK and US launch new airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen

The US and UK have hit more Houthi targets in Yemen with airstrikes.

American and British forces struck more than 30 targets across 10 locations with the strikes launched by ships and fighter jets, US officials said.

The locations which were attacked have not been disclosed but Yemeni media said the Al-Hudaydah and Sanaa areas have been hit by strikes today.

NBC News reported than two dozen aircraft launched off of the USS Eisenhower, some of which carried 2,000 pound bombs and sidewinder air to air missiles and other precision guided missiles.

Missiles were also launched from the USS Gravely and USS Carney, according to officials.

It comes after the US yesterday targeted more than 85 military sites in Iraq and Syria used by Iranā€™s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and militias it backs, killing 40 people.

The US said Fridayā€™s strikes were in relation for a drone attack which killedĀ three American soldiersĀ last weekend in northeastern Jordan that it believes was launched by Iran-backed militias.

Iran backs the Houthi rebel group behind attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, which they say they are doing in demand of a ceasefire in Gaza, and against whom the UK and US launched coordinated strikes lastĀ month

The Houthis, who control the most populous parts of Yemen, say their attacks are in solidarity with Palestinians as Israel strikes Gaza.

Friday the US destroyer Laboon and F/A-18s from the Eisenhower shot down seven drones fired from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen into the Red Sea, the destroyer Carney shot down a drone fired in the Gulf of Aden and US forces took out four more drones that were prepared to launch.

Hours before the latest joint operation, the US took another self-defence strike on a site in Yemen, destroying six anti-ship cruise missiles, as it has repeatedly when it has detected a missile or drone ready to launch
