Braverman warns Sunak’s plans would mean no Rwanda flights before next election

The Prime Minister’s current plan to get the Rwanda policy off the ground means no asylum flights will take off under the scheme before the next election, the former home secretary has claimed.

Following Wednesday’s Supreme Court’s ruling which deemed the Rwanda policy unlawful, the Government has pressed ahead with work to upgrade the existing deal from a memorandum of understanding to a legally-binding treaty.

Writing in the Telegraph, Suella Braverman said converting the agreement to a treaty “will not solve the fundamental issue” of refoulement risks and “tinkering with a failed plan will not stop the boats”.
