Latest as minister says ‘we’re in no way complacent’ after Palace arrest before coronation

The Government is in ‘no way complancent’ about security surrounding the King’s coronation after a man was arrested outside Buckingham Palace last night, the security minister has said.

A precautionary controlled explosion was carried out outside the palace on Tuesday evening after a man threw what is suspected to be shotgun catridges into palace grounds.

Tom Tugendhat told broadcasters on Wednesday morning that police acted “quickly” and “incredibly professionally”.

Elsewhere, Rishi Sunak prepares to face Keir Starmer at PMQs this lunchtime as all the major political parties enter their final 24 hours of campaigning before Thursday’s local elections.
