Latest as Rishi Sunak to meet Joe Biden at White House ahead of plans to host AI summit

The UK will host the first global summit on artificial intelligence (AI) safety, Rishi Sunak announced ahead of talks on the issue with Joe Biden in Washington today.

The summit, which will be held in the autumn, will consider the need for international co-ordinated action to mitigate the risks of the emerging technology. Ahead of Thursday’s meeting with Mr Biden, the Prime Minister said: “AI has an incredible potential to transform our lives for the better. But we need to make sure it is developed and used in a way that is safe and secure.”

Elsewhere, Mr Sunak has suggested a “busy schedule” meant he was not seeking a meeting with Donald Trump while in the US.
