When does Black Friday end? Extended deals and Cyber Monday, explained

Black Friday is here and with it cut-price deals on everything from an air fryer to a smart phone as retailers compete for pre-Christmas customers.

Traditionally, Black Friday was the day after Thanksgiving in the US and marked the start of the festive shopping season. This year that is Friday 24 November.

However, these days Black Friday and its attendant shopping incentives tend to stretch way beyond the one single day and often encompasses much of the month of November.

We take a look at when Black Friday and its bonanza of bargains come to an end.

When does Black Friday end?

Officially Black Friday draws to a close at 11.59pm today but the offers associated with it are set to continue for many retailers.

Discounts on a range of products from clothes and cosmetics to televisions and tech equipment tend to be extended over the weekend to the following Cyber Monday on 27 November.

Black Friday used to be about deals on the high street, while Cyber Monday was focused on online deals. But now much of the bargain-hunting is one online over the four-day period.

Some businesses, such as online retailers Amazon and Very, started offering Black Friday deals way ahead of the day.

Amazon began its Black Friday deals from 17 November, Argos and Curry’s also had pre-Black Friday offers.

A number of big name brands such as Apple, Nintendo and Sony also participate with Black Friday discounts.

How long will the offers be available?

Most brands and retailers, such as Amazon, end their offers just before midnight on Cyber Monday.

For those uncertain about whether they are really getting a good deal, there are price tracker sites such as Camelcamelcamel.com and PriceRunner.com.

And before any purchase MoneySavingExpert founder Martin Lewis has a key mantra: “If you were going to buy it anyway and it is half-price, you saved 50 per cent.

“If you weren’t going to buy but do ‘cos its half price, you’ve wasted 100 per cent.”
