When will Virgin email be fixed? Why service has gone down as thousands report issues

Virgin Media is still having issues with its email service, with hundreds of customers unable to access their accounts.

Thousands have been unable to use their emails for several days.

What happened?

The problems appear to have started shortly before 6pm on Sunday, according to online outage tracker Down Detector, before being fixed and then re-arising early on Monday.

Thousands of people have logged complaints on Down Detector, with many more sharing their frustrations on social media.

People have said their connection repeatedly times out while trying to access their emails.

Almost a thousand people reported their emails were still not working on Tuesday morning as well, taking the issues into a third day.

One wrote on Twitter: “@virginmedia my email is STILL down, received nothing since Sunday. What on earth is going on? Apart from copy and pasting your stock ‘we are aware’ response, how about some actual answers?!”

Another said: “Email down today again @VirginMedia what’s going on, is nobody from @virginMedia going to take responsibility for this recurring problem and give us some answers?”

One customer vented their frustrations on the Down Detector website itself, saying: “Email worked a little last night but not everything came through. This morning it is completely broken again. My business cannot survive this.”

Another said: “No emails yesterday, received some today from yesterday, can send emails but still not recieving any . Arrrrgggghhhhhhhhh”

What has Virgin said?

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: “We’re aware of an issue that is affecting our Virgin Media email service for customers.

“Our teams are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

A screengrab of an email shared on social media appeared to show what Virgin has said to customers.

It said: “Due to a technical issue, Virgin Media email services were disrupted for most of the day on 19 June. We want to sincerely apologise for the frustration and inconvenience this may have caused you.

“While our teams have been able to full restore most email services, work is still underway to completely resolve the issue for some accounts which includes yours.”

It added that: “You are now able to send and receive emails as you normally would However, you will have noticed that any emails received on or before 19 June will not be appearing in your inbox, sent items or any other folders.

“We want to reassure you that your emails and data are safe and secure; there is currently nothing t suggest your account has been compromised; and that all emails will be fully restored once the relevant system repair has been completed. Any emails sent to yo on 19 June when this problem occurred, but not received, will also be delivered to your inbox once this issue has been fully fixed.”

It suggested people looking for urgent emails contact the original sender, and said their “focus now is on working around the clock to ensure your emails are restored as quickly as possible”.
