Which stores have been bought by Poundland and full list of stores closing down

Poundland owner Pepco has agreed to buy up to 71 Wilko stores after the collapse of the popular high street chain.

The company will reopen the sites under the Poundland brand, according to Wilko’s administrators, PwC.

Existing employees will not be automatically transferred to the new stores, but Pepco said it would “prioritise” Wilko workers when recruiting for the new Poundland outlets. It aims to open these shops by the end of the year.

Family-owned Wilko employed 12,500 staff and ran 400 shops before it hired administrators early last month after it came under pressure from weak consumer spending and debts to suppliers.

Although a raft of closures are taking place this week – a process which will accelerate over the next fortnight – administrators had previously struck a deal for fellow discount chain B&M to buy 51 outlets.

PwC said around 3,200 Wilko staff currently work across the sites acquired by B&M and Pepco.
