Renowned British artist Martin Amis dies age 73 after losing cancer battle

Renowned British artist Martin Amis has died at the age of 73.

His wife, Isabel Fonseca, said the cause of his death was esophageal cancer, according to the New York Times

The authorā€™s best-selling books include Money and London Fields, and his memoir Experience

He also wrote a collections of essays and short stories and some of his later worked examined atrocities committed by Joseph Stalin, who led the Soviet Union between 1924 until his death in 1953.

He is best known work is his ā€˜London trilogyā€™ novels ā€” ā€œMoney: A Suicide Noteā€ (1985), ā€œLondon Fieldsā€ (1990) and ā€œThe Informationā€ (1995).

Amis work along with that of fellow novelists Salman Rushdie, Ian McEwan and Julian Barnes redefined the British literary scene in the 80s and and 90s.

In 1985 he said in his books he had attempted to use a high style to describe low things ā€“ describing this as ā€œthe whole world of fast food, sex shows, nude magsā€.

He added: ā€œIā€™m often accused of concentrating on the pungent, rebarbative side of life in my books, but I feel Iā€™m rather sentimental about it. Anyone who reads the tabloid papers will rub up against much greater horrors than I describe.ā€
