Five people charged with aggravated trespass after Just Stop Oil disrupt West End performance of Les Mes

Five people have been charged with aggravated trespass after Just Stop Oil protesters disrupted a performance of Les Miserables in London’s West End.

The performance at the Sondheim Theatre was brought to a halt at around 9pm on Wednesday (4 September) the Metropolitan Police said.

The five people charged are Hannah Taylor, 23, Lydia Gribbin, 28, Hanan Ameur, 22, Noah Crane, 18, and Poppy Bliss, 19.

They have been released on bail and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 3.

The protesters stormed the stage wearing t-shirts which were emblazoned with the words ‘the show can’t go on’ during a performance of Do You Hear The People Sing?.

Footage recorded by an audience member showed Just Stop Oil members explaining why they took the action.

Some members of the audience are heard booing and shouting during the protest.

One spectator shouted: “Get off you stupid people. How dare you.”

Another said: “You naughty people, you naughty people.”

A third person was heard yelling, “F*** you” as one of the activists told how society was “collapsing”.

The demonstration led to the performance being abandoned.

Police said they are keen to hear from audience members who may have travelled from outside London to see the show.

Anyone with footage or information about the incident can call police on 101 or tweet MetCC quoting 2074/5OCT.
