King’s Speech to set out Rishi Sunak’s political battle lines ahead of general election

King Charles III will deliver a political speech this morning outlining Rishi Sunak’s planned bills for the forthcoming months.

Tougher sentencing for criminals, oil drilling in the North Sea, and encryption measures that may pit the Government against technology companies will be included in Charles’s speech, in a rundown of roughly 20 policies the PM hopes will sway the next election.

Police would be granted powers to enter a property without a warrant and seize goods if they had proof a stolen item was at the address. Other measures include introducing a independent football regulator, and a bill to overhaul the leasehold system.
