First aid trucks cross into Gaza as Egypt crossing opens under deal

The Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza has finally opened to allow crucial aid into the Strip.

Thousands of tonnes of aid had been stuck at the Egyptian side of the border for more than a week, with 175 trucks lined up ready to deliver it, as water, food and medicine supplies run short after two weeks under an Israeli siege.

The US Embassy in Jerusalem said it had information that Rafah would open later Saturday for foreigners to depart Gaza, but similar previous announcements have proven premature.
