Three people injured in Clapham after moped rider fires shotgun in police chase
Three people have been injured in Clapham, south London, after a moped rider who was being pursued by police opened fire.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were chasing a moped that had failed to stop around 4.55pm today (1 March), before a firearm, believed to be a shotgun, was fired from the motorcycle near Clapham Common Southside.
Two people sustained shotgun pellet injuries and a third person was injured by the moped
The suspects fled the scene, the force said.
London Ambulance Service paramedics have taken the injured people to hospital.
The force said it does not believe any of those injured to be in a life-threatening condition.
A crime scene is in place and urgent enquiries to trace the moped are ongoing.
There have been no arrests at this stage and firearms officers are searching the area.
Emergency crews were called at around 5pm on Friday to the incident in Clapham Common South Side ,London Ambulance Service said
In a statement, it added: “We sent a number of resources including ambulance crews, operational managers, advanced paramedics and London’s air ambulance.
“We treated three people at the scene and took two to a London major trauma centre and one to hospital.”
Anyone who saw the moped, or captured the incident on dash cam, should call police on 101, quoting incident reference number CAD 5008/ of 1 March.
